This project supports development of associated-particle imaging (API) algorithms and improvements to associated-particle alpha detectors in deuterium-tritium (D-T) neutron generators needed to make field API imaging of potential nuclear threat devices practical. Recently, community consensus has been established to develop a field neutron radiography capability to complement existing field x-ray radiography capabilities for the inspection of potential threat items. In large measure, this consensus is a recognition that the combination of x-ray imaging and neutron imaging can significantly aid identification of materials of interest. The goal of the proposed work is to enable practical field radiography and analysis of thick objects using an associated-particle imaging (API) neutron source.
